The 3Ro Italian truck, a 5-cylinder diesel engine vehicle, was part of the Ro line (Ro – 2-cylinder, Ro-Ro – 3-cylinder). Both civilian and military versions were produced from 1938 to 1947. It was the Royal Italian Army's primary heavy truck during World War II, serving in the Balkans, North Africa, and Eastern Front. Around 9500 military vehicles were produced in various forms, including general service cargo, troop transport, tank transporter, horse transporter, petrol tank, and more. Some trucks were equipped with 100mm 100/17 howitzers or 90mm 90/53 anti-aircraft guns, transforming them into self-propelled artillery platforms. After the Italian armistice on September 8, 1943, many trucks were seized by the German Wehrmacht. Some captured vehicles also served in the Allied army, particularly in the heavy section of LRDG forces.
